Differential Power Analysis Attacks

چکیده
—cryptographic devices have found their way into a wide range of application and the topic of their security has reached great research importance. It has been proved that encryption device leaks information, which can be exploited by various attacks such as power analysis, timing analysis and electromagnetic radiation. Differential power analysis is a powerful and efficient cryptanalytic technique which extracts information on secret keys by monitoring instantaneous power consumption of crypto processor and collecting the traces over a series of acquisitions.. The focus of our project is to analyze how a crypto-processor (a smart card) implementing AES reveals information against Differential Power Analysis attacks.

Differential Power Analysis: A Serious Threat to FPGA Security
Differential Power Analysis (DPA) implies measuring the supply current of a cipher-circuit in an attempt to uncover part of a cipher key. Cryptographic security gets compromised if the current waveforms obtained correlate with those from a hypothetical power model of the circuit. As FPGAs are becoming integral parts of embedded systems and increasingly popular for cryptographic applications and...
متن کاملThreshold Implementation as a Countermeasure against Power Analysis Attacks
One of the usual ways to find sensitive data or secret parameters of cryptographic devices is to use their physical leakages. Power analysis is one of the attacks which lay in such a model. In comparison with other types of side-channels, power analysis is so efficient and has a high success rate. So it is important to provide a countermeasure against it. Different types of countermeasures use ...
متن کاملPower Analysis Attacks and Algorithmic Approaches to their Countermeasures for Koblitz Curve Cryptosystems
Because of their shorter key sizes, cryptosystems based on elliptic curves are being increasingly used in practical applications. A special class of elliptic curves, namely, Koblitz curves, offers an additional but crucial advantage of considerably reduced processing time. In this article, power analysis attacks are applied to cryptosystems that use scalar multiplication on Koblitz curves. Both...
متن کاملOn two DES implementations secure against differential power analysis in smart-cards
Masking is one of the efficient and easily implemented countermeasures to protect cryptographic algorithms in such resource limited environments as smart-cards from differential power analysis as well as simple power analysis that were first introduced by Kocher et al. in 1999. To defend differential power analysis attacks, Akkar and Giraud presented a Transformed Masking Method and applied it ...
متن کاملFPGA Implementation of AES Algorithm Resistant Power Analysis attacks
In order to be more effectively resist differential power analysis attacks, the improved fixed value masking algorithm is proposed for resource-constrained smart card based on fixed value masking and random masking. Firstly, a number of random numbers are selected and prestored in on-chip ROM for generating the corresponding byte-substitution table. It does not increase much power and hardware ...
